Established in 1976, Ty-com Business Systems Ltd provides innovative software, IT hardware and outsource solutions to a wide variety of companies across Scotland, ranging from small businesses to multinationals with global interests. Applications and services are typically deployed in operational areas including financial processes, customer relationship management, human resources, competence assurance and payroll.
tycom has evolved to become one of Scotland’s leading IT businesses, providing cutting edge services and solutions for clients in a diverse range of sectors throughout the UK and across the world, including Indonesia, Sicily, Egypt and Morocco.
The company has developed its own proprietary software solutions enabling a range of complementary support and services to be offered. In addition, tycom is a Certified Microsoft Gold Partner.
As well as its headquarters on Aberdeen’s Queens Road, tycom has expanded into the central belt, with offices set up in Dunfermline and Glasgow to help service its growing number of clients. tycom currently supports more than 300 businesses from a wide range of sectors, including the oil and gas industry, which prompted the opening of an office in Houston, Texas. Having developed software packages such as asset tracking, ideally suited to the oil industry, tycom recognised the need for a presence in Houston to properly target the US market. tycom was also the first IT company in Scotland to offer a helpdesk support facility as part of ongoing contracts and its skilled team can create software packages tailored to suit the key business needs of clients.
History
tycom has its origins as Tyseal Computers Limited in 1976, part of the Tyseal group of companies, based in Aberdeen, and managed by Brian West and Alistair Findlater from British Olivetti, selling on behalf of Kienzle, a German manufacturer.
Founder Dennis John Williams retired in the late 1980s, selling Tyseal to a stock market company, but Tyseal Computers retained its independence and became Tycom Business Systems Ltd.
With the introduction of PCs in the early 1980s the company began to sell Sharp, Canon, Apricot and Padmede (Financial and Accounting Software), and was involved in the launch of Integrity Plus Software in 1984.
In the late 1990s, tycom developed the "Probity" software system, at the same time defining its own standards for software, procedures and hardware. Over the ensuing period, a number of additional software products were rolled out, including:
• 2000 - Development and launch of probity®
• 2003 - Development and launch of capability core®
• 2004 - Development and launch of CLARE call logging software
• 2005 - Development and launch of prosperity®
• 2007 - Development and launch of Visibility, HR and Recruitment modules for probity®
In addition to bespoke software designed for an individual organisation, tycom offers the probity® range, which includes financial accounting, construction, plant hire, oil and gas and payroll applications; Bureau Payroll; capability core®, which records staff training and certification history; and prosperity® CRM software, for accurate record keeping on all sales activity and prospecting of new customers.
tycom also delivers hardware solutions, technical support and project management, as well as an experienced team of Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers, on hand to provide free advice, consultancy and support to maximise the effectiveness of each client’s IT strategy.
