tycom would like to congratulate two key customers for their success in one of the major oil finds in Scottish waters in recent years.
The Kraken field, East of Shetland, is operated by Nautical Petroleum and is a high-quality reservoir holding about 160 million barrels of recoverable oil, with appraisals showing a deeper prospect near the development of a similar quality.
The horizontal appraisal well at Kraken was drilled by Awilco Drilling’s WilHunter Rig and it showed exceptional results and the capability of producing 8000 barrels of oil a day.
Awilco Drilling’s IT infrastructure throughout the company was designed and implemented earlier this year, with a capital investment of over £300,000 in their Westhill HQ, The Wilhunter and her sister rig, The Wilphoenix. Both rigs were fully refitted in Gdansk at the beginning of 2011, with IT systems build in tycom’s Aberdeen workshop facility, before being shipped and installed on-site in Poland.
Key tycom customer, Aberdeen based First Oil and Gas, hold a 30% interest in the Kraken field, alongwith Nautical (50%) and Canamens Energy North Sea (20%). First Oil and Gas carried out highly successful IT infrastructure upgrade with tycom during 2010, and like Awilco Drilling, continue to use tycom as their IT support partner.
Nautical have said that the company will decide on production methods for the field next year and that they are in discussion with floating production vessel suppliers and operators with a view to commencing drilling in 2015.
tycom wish all concerned in this substantial heavy oil field venture every success and look forward to working with our IT Partners involved in the project throughout the development of the field.
