We have won a technical consultancy project with Jordanhill School, situated in the West End of Glasgow to determine which of Citrix technologies will deliver the most benefit to Jordanhill School pupils and staff.
Jordanhill School is a combined Primary and Secondary with a total school roll of approximately 1000. The school has the highest levels of attainment and the highest percentage of pupils progressing to Higher Education amongst state schools in Scotland. Key to this is the quality of teaching and pupil support.
The project consists of ourselves, in conjunction with Jordanhill, setting up a Proof of Concept (PoC) environment, comprising new servers, a new storage area network with Citrix Xenserver and Xendesktop software.
Once the PoC environment has been set up, tycom will then experiment with the functionality of Xendesktop to determine teh optimal solution for Jordanhill’s requirements. The most suitable technology (i.e. virtual applications or virtual desktops) will then be piloted to selected user groups. We will also create a standard desktop build and leverage XenApp to distribute it.
The project also involves undertaking a capacity planning exercise to determine the required resources within Jordanhill’s Xenserver deployment to allow for a server infrastructure to be virtualised. This virtualised server environment will provide Jordanhill with a more flexible and agile IT Infrastructure.
