Run for Cancer Research UK

Some of our staff have been running programmes of a different kind as they prepare to take part in the 10k race at this weekend's Run Balmoral 08 event.

Sales team Keith Mathieson and Calum Macdonald have completed the Stena Drilling Tartan 10k race. Run Balmoral 08 will see thousands of runners tackle the terrain around The Queen's Deeside holiday home.

Keith and Calum's colleague Iain Macleod has also been training with them as he is running the City of Aberdeen Baker Hughes 10k Race 2008 on May 25.

As well as setting themselves a personal challenge to reach the finish line, all three will be raising money for Cancer Research UK.

They have been regularly running together as well as training individually several times a week.

Iain said: "It was my idea for us to take part in a 10k in aid of Cancer Research as a couple of members of my wife's family have been ill with cancer and it's something that affects so many people.".

"I have been running for charity for a number of years and Calum and Keith, who has run a 10k previously, are both fit and were keen to join me. We thought that by pooling our resources it would help us to raise more money.".

"We've got into a routine of running together as well as training three or four times a week on our own so we're ready for the challenges!".

Iain, Calum and Keith are aiming to raise £1,000 through sponsorship and have set up a website for supporters to donate money, at www.justgiving.com/islanders_running.

They will all be wearing Cancer Research UK t-shirts featuring the tycom logo.

Alistair Findlater, Managing Director, said: "We are delighted that Calum, Keith and Iain have decided to set themselves this challenge of completing the 10k races at Balmoral and in Aberdeen. We wish them all the best of luck.".
